Rapido Trains is proud to present the EMD GP39 locomotive in HO scale! Following the highly successful GP38 and GP40 models, the GP39 brings the same high-end, road-specific details with a powerful motor and those razor-sharp graphics you’re accustomed to from us.
The EMD GP39 locomotive was unique in that it featured a 12-cylinder, turbocharged 645E3 prime mover — 4 less than its GP38 cousin. The largest purchaser of the GP39 was the Chesapeake & Ohio, ordering 20 locomotives. Upon the Chessie and Seaboard merger, the GP39s continued in local and yard service for CSX Transportation. While some locomotives and slugs would wear a variety of patchout or early CSX Y schemes, most of the fleet was repainted into the YN2 scheme and eventually the current YN3 scheme.
